Snake Killer

Paul killed this copperhead that greeted us on the steps at CIU, so he got called "Snake Killer" a
lot. He killed it with his easel.

Paul got the Alumni of the Year Award from his university, Columbia International University, formerly Columbia Bible College. It was so special to see my husband so honored that I got weepy. I went groping around in my pocketbook, and came up with a pair of Josh’s socks in there which I had borrowed in a pinch when we were stranded in Jo’burg a while ago. Drying my eyes with dirty socks got me giggling which was a help.

Paul took advantage of the 2 minutes they gave him to respond to his award, and preached a 2 minute chalk talk!
Just a reminder, James is our nephew, Paul’s brother Daniel’s son. They’ve lived and worked with us in Africa for 6 years now and have greatly expanded and broadened our ministry. Gloria also has a ministry to the small group of Latin American ladies who are imprisoned in South Africa for drug smuggling.

Another ministry of Gloria’s has been a children’s group she helps with in Ocean View, a community not too far from our home. I got to take over for her as her pregnancy progressed, and really enjoy that group. It is organized by 2 Korean ladies, named Soona and Sook, and has an Ethiopian man named Enoch who helps so with us Americans on there, it makes quite an international group. The kids are so sweet, and it’s great fun to teach them about Jesus.

From Columbia, South Carolina: September 13, 2008

The Lord is good, “our” new baby arrived while we were home in August. Daniel John Young was born the 27th of August after a very difficult labor, followed by an emergency C-section. We’re thankful that both baby Daniel and his mom are doing well, while Dad James is so happy he’s just a-beaming.
